Pressure line PN 10

• cold water up to 20 °C
• floor heating up to 45 °C

Pressure line PN 16

• cold water up to 20 °C
• warm water up to 60 °C

Pressure line PN 20

• warm water up to 60 °C

(each project must be individually assessed in terms of service life)

It generally applies that the value of the pressure line (PN 10, PN 16, PN 20) expresses the thickness of the pipe wall in order to calculate the pressure in the wall, pressure resistance of the pipe and life of the pipes in various conditions (see Table). It is important to note that the maximum operating pressure in buildings is as follows: cold water (up to 20°C) 10 bar and warm non-potable water 7.5 bar at the maximum operating temperature of 60°C.

The pipes are constructed with an expected life of 50 years while it is suitable to use at least the PN 16 pressure line for cold water and PN 20 pipes for warm non-potable water.

If using lower pressure lines or under different operating conditions or for other media than pure water, it is necessary to verify the service life of the pipes through calculations according to ČSN EN 1778.

Therefore, it is always necessary to consider all facts and the result shall then be a compromise between the following requirements: required service life, expected pressure and heat load (pressure line), required water flow and material cost.
